Classification and Main Varieties of Coated Paper

Varieties of coated paper include art paper (coated printing paper), lightweight coated (LWC) paper, and cast-coated paper. Art paper is a high-quality printing paper made by applying a white coating to a base paper. Cast-coated paper is a premium coated printing paper characterized by an exceptionally smooth surface. Lightweight coated paper undergoes a light coating treatment, resulting in quality that falls between coated and uncoated paper. Art paper encompasses varieties such as single-sided art paper, double-sided art paper, premium double-sided art paper, high-grade matte art paper, and embossed art paper. Main varieties of lightweight coated paper include pictorial paper, premium pictorial paper, ivory-toned woodfree paper, snow-white woodfree paper, and magazine paper; among these, pictorial paper features high brightness but low gloss, premium pictorial paper has a smooth and fine surface, ivory-toned woodfree paper presents a soft ivory-white hue, snow-white woodfree paper is smooth with high brightness, and magazine paper is prone to yellowing due to its groundwood pulp content.
Water-based coated paper utilizes paper as the base material and is processed with a water-based emulsion coating on one or both sides; it is used for packaging daily consumer goods. It is classified by application into Type I (low basis weight), Type II (medium basis weight), and Type III (high basis weight); by coating method into single-sided and double-sided coated paper; and by packaging format into reel (roll) paper and sheet paper.
