Cup Stock Base Paper

Cup stock base paper is an environmentally friendly paper cup paper produced by applying a water-based functional barrier coating onto food-grade virgin wood pulp paperboard through a coating process. The product completely replaces the PE plastic extrusion layer used in traditional paper cups. While maintaining excellent water resistance, oil resistance, heat resistance, and heat-sealing performance, the product achieves environmental benefits including recyclability, biodegradability, and plastic-free attributes. The product is available in single-side coated and double-side coated types. The weight range covers 180 to 350 grams. The product is compatible with high-speed automatic paper cup forming equipment and is widely used in hot beverage cups, cold beverage cups, paper bowls, food trays, and various food contact packaging applications.

The performance of water-based coated cup stock base paper is comparable to traditional PE-coated paper, but surpasses it in environmental attributes. In terms of water resistance, the water-based coating forms a dense barrier layer that reliably holds beverages at 90–95°C without leakage, softening, or odor. Double-side coated grades resist external condensation, maintaining cup stiffness and print clarity. In terms of heat-sealing and forming, the coating has good adhesion and does not crack during die-cutting, curling, or heat-sealing, compatible with existing cup forming machine processes without major equipment modifications. In terms of food safety, the product has no solvent residues and no microplastic release risk. Most grades contain no PFAS and meet FDA and EU food contact material standards. In terms of print performance, the paper surface is smooth and white with good color reproduction, supporting multi-color fine printing and brand presentation.
