Newsprint is a lightweight printing paper made primarily from mechanical pulp and deinked waste paper pulp, with a small amount of chemical wood pulp. The core characteristics of the paper are fast ink absorption, good printability, moderate bulk, and very low unit cost. The weight range is concentrated at 45 to 52 grams, making it one of the highest-volume commodity printing papers globally. Newsprint is compatible with high-speed web offset and sheetfed offset printing, supporting black-and-white, spot color, and full-color printing. Finished products are lightweight and easy to handle. Additionally, newsprint uses waste paper pulp as a significant raw material and is recyclable, offering strong environmental and cost advantages.

The ink absorption performance is the most outstanding process characteristic of newsprint. The paper surface is specially treated with excellent ink absorption. Ink penetrates and sets quickly after contact with the paper surface, with short drying time. This makes it compatible with high-speed newspaper web presses running at hundreds of meters per minute, with stable web running and low web break rates. After printing, products can immediately proceed to folding, bundling, and distribution, matching the short-cycle, high-volume production rhythm of the newspaper industry. In newspaper and periodical printing, newsprint is used for daily newspapers, evening newspapers, metropolitan newspapers, industry professional newspapers, party newspapers, community weeklies, and sports and entertainment special editions, compatible with black-and-white, spot color, and full-color printing. In mass-circulation periodicals and free DM publications, it is used for weekly digests, lifestyle and entertainment magazines, subway and bus free publications, commercial DM magazines, and industry newsletters. Printing costs are significantly lower than coated paper and woodfree paper, making it suitable for free distribution publications that rely on advertising revenue. In commercial promotional and promotional materials, it is used for supermarket mailers, promotional posters, DM flyers, insert advertisements, and real estate flyers. High-volume printing costs are extremely low, making it the preferred paper for short-term promotional materials. In educational materials and low-cost publications, it is used for primary and secondary school exercise books, exam papers, supplementary materials, popular novels, and pocket books.
